Current Situation
Mobile pollution sources, being primarily car and motorcycle, are able to move from place to place without external forces and emit physical or chemical pollutants as a by product. Some of the emitted pollutants are suspended particles, CO, CHx, NOx, lead and SOx etc. Those pollutants not only have an ill effect on human health, emission such as NOx and CHx are also related to the formation of photochemical gases and ozone.
The characteristics and effects on human health of each air pollutant are as follows:
According to the monthly statistic on registered mobile vehicle from the Ministry of Transport, there are 388,870 registered mobile vehicles in this county by the end of December 2004, of which 123,389 vehicles are petrol and diesel car; the rest 265,481 vehicles are motorcycles which consist of a staggering 68.3% of total registered vehicles in this county. Thus we need to pay attention to monitoring and controlling emissions from motor vehicles.
