Yilan County always emphasizes all environmental protection related issues. In the early era, when our bureau is still the second section of the Bureau of Health, the section has promoted many environmental projects, such as "Blue Sky Plan", "Green Fountain Plan", "One County City One River Alleviation Plan". All these projects have popular supports, and all results from these projects have gained approvals, therefore Yilan County has the great reputation of "Environmental County".
In December 20th 1990, the Bureau of Environmental Protection establishes and operates in the address of that of Yilan Investigative Bureau, the total personnel was 34 persons, only set up for three sections and one office, although it is small organization, but it is often performing the environmental protection works. With the high demand of environmental protection, people is demanding higher and higher quality of living standard, our environmental business is keeping expanding. In May 1997, the Bureau of Environmental Protection has hired an additional four staff, to a total of 38 people. In the mean time, it also added the fourth section, with first section is in charge of environmental conservation and cutivation, second section is in charge of public nuisance dispute management, third section is in charge of environmental health and sanitation, fourth section is in charge of environmental inspection.
In January 2000, the organization charter was modified, the bureau is formally named as "Yilan County Environmental Protection Bureau". Due to our location is given to Land Administration, so the Bureau moved to the current location. To coordinate with the consstruction of Liche incinerator by Ministor of Environmental Protection, to open for business in 2005, fourth section will move to Liche for operation.
Our county is close to outside traffic, due to the mountain range and the limitation of natural resource, all kinds of development and constructions has been develop slowly, but it conserves the original natural beautiful scenery. In the future, Taipei and Yilan Freway will be open, Tourism industries outlook will be very promising, the Bureau is working hard to build and maintain the quality of life. As our mission statement declares, "In search of the balance of environmental protection and economic development, to pursue the resource recycling, to live the healthy environment, to operate clean and beautiful home community together". This is the goal that we are striving for.
